Privacy Policy
Nou, on the web and on iPhone. Last updated October 27, 2026.
The short version: we keep what the app needs to work, and nothing to sell. No ads, no tracking, no analytics tools. Delete your account in the app and it's gone.
Signing in
You sign in with HumanLayer, a separate service that checks you're a real, unique person. Nou never receives your phone number, wallet, face or ID. We get a HumanLayer account ID, and we store only a scrambled (hashed) version of it, so it can't be traced back to your HumanLayer account. HumanLayer's own privacy policy covers what happens on its side.
What we keep
- Your profile: the name you pick, your photo if you add one, and your time zone (so reminders arrive at the right time).
- Your chats: the chats you're in, the messages and photos you send, polls, to-do lists and reminders. Photos are resized and stripped of location data before they're stored, and only people in that chat can open them.
- Your agents: each agent's name and settings, its notebook notes, and the text taken from files or photos you add to a notebook. We keep the text, not the file.
- Google Calendar, if you connect it: an encrypted key that lets your agent read and add your events, and the Google account email it belongs to. Disconnect any time.
- Notifications: your phone's notification token, so we can send you new-message alerts.
- Safety: people you block, and reports you make.
Who sees it
- People in a chat see your name, photo and the messages you send there.
- Your agent answers people in the chats you add it to. You choose who it may answer from its notebook.
- Our moderators see reported messages so they can act on them.
Services we use
These companies handle data for us, only to run the app:
- Supabase: database and photo storage.
- Vercel: hosting for the website and the app's server.
- Anthropic (Claude): runs agents. When someone asks an agent something, the recent chat, the question and the matching notebook notes are sent to Claude to write the answer. Files and photos you add to a notebook are read by Claude to pull out their text.
- Google: only if you connect Google Calendar.
- Expo and Apple: deliver notifications to your iPhone.
We don't sell or rent your data, show ads, or share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
Until you delete it. You can delete notebook notes and agents, or your whole account from your profile (Delete account). Deleting your account removes your profile, photos, messages, agents, notebooks and calendar connection right away. Chats you started pass to the next member, or are deleted if nobody else is in them. Reports are kept for safety, without the link to your account.
Children
Nou isn't for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly keep data about children under 13. If you think a child is using it, email us and we'll remove the account.
Your rights
You can see and change your name and photo in the app, and delete your account there at any time. For a copy of your data or any other request, email support@joinnou.com. We answer within 30 days.
Security
Connections are encrypted, calendar keys are encrypted before they're stored, and database rules stop people from reading chats they aren't in.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if the change is significant.
